Commission-Free Online Ordering for Restaurants: Keep the 20–30% the Apps Take

Commission-free online ordering for restaurants means the platform takes no percentage of your order. You pay a flat monthly fee, and a $60 order stays a $60 sale.

The delivery apps work the other way. They publish 15% to 30% of every delivery order, and that rate keeps applying to the regular who orders every Thursday and already knows your name.

What is commission-free online ordering?

Commission-free online ordering is a system that takes your customers' pickup and delivery orders on your own branded page and charges you no percentage of the sale. You pay a subscription instead, so the platform earns the same whether you do 50 orders a month or 5,000.

It is not the same as a marketplace. A marketplace brings you customers who have never heard of you and charges a cut for the introduction. A commission-free system serves the customers who already found you.

Both have a place. The mistake is paying introduction rates on people who need no introduction.

Is direct online ordering the same thing?

Direct online ordering means the order goes straight from your customer to your kitchen, with no marketplace in between. Commission-free is how it is priced; direct is how it is routed.

Nearly all direct ordering is commission-free, but not automatically. Some direct platforms still take a percentage, and some charge the customer a service fee you never see on your own invoice. Ask both questions, not one.

How much does DoorDash take from restaurants?

DoorDash publishes 15%, 25% or 30% of each delivery order in the United States depending on the plan, and 6% on pickup orders on all plans. In Canada the same three plans publish 20%, 25% and 29% on delivery, and 8% to 10% on pickup.

Those are two different sets of numbers for the same company, so check the page for your country rather than the one that comes up first — or read the full plan-by-plan breakdown. If you are in Canada, we've also compared the Canadian options.

Here is what each marketplace publishes today, next to what we charge.

How much does Uber Eats take from restaurants?

Uber Eats publishes three marketplace plans at 20%, 25% and 30% of each delivery order, plus a 15% rate if you deliver the order with your own driver. Pickup is 7% in the US and 10% in Canada — but only with validated in-store pricing, otherwise it rises to 10% and 15%.

That last condition is the one owners miss. If your menu prices on the app are higher than your in-store prices, you pay the higher pickup rate.

What does SkipTheDishes charge?

SkipTheDishes does not publish a restaurant commission rate. We opened its partner page on 31 August 2026 and there is no percentage, no fee schedule and no pricing table on it.

If you are in Canada, that matters, because Skip is often the biggest line on the invoice. Ask for the rate in writing before you sign, and ask what it becomes after any promotional period ends.

What did the delivery apps cost us?

We built OrderEatRepeat because we were GloriaFood customers ourselves and it was discontinued. We had seven restaurant locations in Ottawa that needed somewhere to go, and every replacement either took a percentage of every order or cost more per month than online ordering was worth to one location.

Our locations still run on this every night, so when something breaks during service, it breaks for us too. That is also why the marketplace arithmetic above is not an abstraction to us — it is the reason a flat fee was the only pricing model we were willing to build.

Does commission-free actually mean free?

No, and any page that implies otherwise is selling you something. Commission-free means the platform takes no percentage of the order — you still pay a monthly subscription, and you still pay your card processor on every transaction.

What it does mean is that your bill stops moving when your sales grow. That is the whole difference, and it is worth being precise about.

If you take no commission, how do you make money?

We charge a flat subscription and nothing else. $99 CAD / $89 USD per location per month, with unlimited orders, every feature included and no per-order fee of any kind.

Ask any commission-free provider one question: what changes on my bill if I double my online sales? If the answer is "nothing", the claim holds.

What does commission-free online ordering cost instead?

One price, one plan, per location. $99 CAD or $89 USD a month covers the branded storefront, pickup and delivery, scheduled orders, delivery zones, promotions, the kitchen order board, receipt printing, the Regulars loyalty program, automated follow-up emails, reports and CSV export.

There are no tiers and no paid add-ons, and every feature is included. Menu building is included and we do it for you at signup. See everything that's included.

Do I still pay card processing fees?

Yes, and you pay them to your own processor rather than to us. Six processors take online card payments on our platform today: Stripe, Square, Braintree, Moneris, Authorize.Net and TD.

Your rates stay your rates and your deposit schedule stays your deposit schedule, because the money never stops with us. For reference, Stripe's published online card rate is 2.9% + $0.30 in the US and 2.9% + CA$0.30 in Canada.

If a platform makes you move processors to use it, that is a cost. Price it before you switch.

How much would I save at my order volume?

Take your online sales from last month and multiply by the commission rate you are on — we've set out what online ordering really costs with every 2026 price linked. That number, minus our flat fee, is the saving — and it is the only calculation that matters.

The flat fee does not move. That is the point of it.

Will I lose the customers the delivery apps bring me?

No, because this is not a replacement for the marketplaces. Keep them for discovery, and use your own ordering page for the people who already know you.

The apps are good at introducing you to someone once. They are expensive at serving that same person for the next three years.

How do I move my regulars off the apps?

Point everything you already own at your own ordering page: the Order Online button on your site, the link on your Google listing, your Instagram bio, your receipts and your printed QR codes. Then give people a small reason to use it — a loyalty reward they only earn ordering direct.

Our Regulars program does that part without points, tiers or an app to download. It is included in the monthly price.

Make the QR code point at a page you control, not at a provider's domain. Then you never have to reprint it again.

Is there a free commission-free ordering system?

Yes, free tiers exist and they are real. The cost usually moves somewhere else in the bill — into the card processing rate, into features held behind an add-on, or into the platform's own future.

GloriaFood ran a free commission-free system for years. Its own homepage now says it "has been discontinued and is no longer accepting new signups". If you are on it, we migrate GloriaFood menus as part of the free menu build.

Free is a fine place to start. It is a bad place to keep ten years of customer data.
