How Much Does DoorDash Charge Restaurants?

How much DoorDash charges restaurants depends on the plan and, more than most owners realise, on the country. In the United States it is 15%, 25% or 30% of each delivery order. In Canada the same three plans are 20%, 25% and 29%.

That first number is the one nobody prints. A Canadian restaurant on the entry plan pays 20% where an American restaurant on the entry plan pays 15% — a third more, on every delivery order, for the same product.

Every figure on this page was read off DoorDash's or Uber's own merchant pages on 1 September 2026 and is linked where it appears. Rates change. Check your own before you decide anything.

One disclosure: OrderEatRepeat is our product, and it is a commission-free ordering platform, so we are not neutral about delivery-app commissions. Nothing on this page comes from us — every number is the marketplace's own.

How much does DoorDash charge restaurants?

DoorDash charges a percentage of each order's subtotal, not a flat fee, and the percentage depends on which partnership plan you sign. In the US that is 15% on Basic, 25% on Plus and 30% on Premier for delivery, with 6% on pickup for all partners.

Here is every published rate, both countries, side by side.

Rates as published by each company on 1 September 2026. *Uber Eats pickup requires validated in-store pricing; without it the US rate is 10% and the Canadian rate is 15%.

What is the difference between Basic, Plus and Premier?

The three plans buy visibility, not features. Basic is the cheapest commission and gives you the smallest delivery radius and the least prominence in the app; Plus widens the radius and adds DashPass customers; Premier adds top search placement and the largest radius.

So the higher plans are an advertising decision dressed as a pricing decision. You are not paying more for better software — you are paying more to be found.

Are DoorDash's rates the same in Canada and the United States?

No. The entry plan is 15% in the US and 20% in Canada, so a Canadian restaurant on Basic hands over a third more of every delivery order than an American one on the same plan. Pickup is a flat 6% in the US, and 10% on Basic or 8% on Plus and Premier in Canada.

At the top the gap reverses slightly — Premier is 30% in the US and 29% in Canada. If you are reading an American article about DoorDash fees and you run a Canadian restaurant, the number you are reading is wrong for you.

Does DoorDash charge restaurants for pickup orders?

Yes. Pickup is 6% of the order in the US on every plan, and in Canada it is 10% on Basic and 8% on Plus and Premier.

That surprises owners, because on a pickup order the app does not deliver anything. The customer walks in and collects the bag. You are paying for the introduction, not the driver.

Does it cost anything to put your restaurant on DoorDash?

No, not up front. DoorDash's Canadian pricing page states plainly that it "does not charge an activation fee, subscription fee, software fee, cancellation fee, contract fee, or any hidden fees".

The cost is entirely in the percentage. That is a genuinely fair deal for a restaurant with no customers yet, and a genuinely expensive one for a restaurant with regulars.

Does DoorDash charge payment processing on top of the commission?

Not on marketplace orders. DoorDash states there are "no payment processing fees for restaurants on DoorDash app or website orders", and the Canadian page repeats it as "zero payment processing fees" on partnership plans.

Card processing is inside the commission. That is worth knowing when you compare the percentage against a direct ordering platform, where you pay a processor separately — a 25% commission and a 2.9% card rate are not the same kind of number.

What is DoorDash Storefront, and is it really 0% commission?

Yes, genuinely. DoorDash sells its own direct ordering product for your website, and it states that "Online Ordering starts at 0% commission (you just pay a standard payment processing fee of 2.9% + $0.30 per order with Boost and Pro packages, and 3.3% + $0.30 per order with Starter)".

We are a competitor and we will say it anyway: if all you want is a commission-free order button on your own site, DoorDash will give you one. The trade is that your direct ordering then lives inside the company whose marketplace you are trying to spend less on, and the 3.3% Starter processing rate is above what most standalone processors charge.

Compare it on the whole bill, not the headline. That is the same advice we would give about our own product.

What does DoorDash actually cost on a $60 order?

On a $60 delivery order, DoorDash's cut is $9.00 on US Basic, $15.00 on Plus and $18.00 on Premier. In Canada the same order costs $12.00 on Basic, $15.00 on Plus and $17.40 on Premier.

Put that against volume and it stops being a percentage. Twenty delivery orders a week at $60 on Canadian Basic is about $12,480 a year in commission, from one location.

How much does Uber Eats take from restaurants by comparison?

Uber Eats publishes 20%, 25% and 30% on delivery across its three marketplace plans, plus 15% if you deliver the order with your own driver. Pickup is 7% in the US and 10% in Canada — but only with validated in-store pricing, otherwise 10% and 15%.

The self-delivery rate is the one worth reading twice. If you already have a driver, 15% buys you the listing alone.

What does SkipTheDishes charge?

SkipTheDishes does not publish a restaurant rate. We opened its partner page on 1 September 2026 and there is no percentage, no fee schedule and no pricing table on it.

If you are in Canada that matters, because Skip is often the largest line on the invoice. Ask for the rate in writing, and ask what it becomes when any promotional period ends.

Are restaurant prices higher on DoorDash?

Often, yes, and the commission is why. When a fifth to a third of the subtotal goes to the platform, the common response is to raise menu prices on the app so the margin survives.

That works until a customer notices. Then the platform has taught your regular that ordering from you is expensive, using your own menu.

Is DoorDash worth it for restaurants?

For discovery, often yes. For your regulars, rarely — the same percentage that buys you a new customer keeps applying to the person who has ordered from you every Thursday for two years.

The useful way to decide is to split the question. Ask what the marketplace costs you on first-time customers, which is marketing, and what it costs you on repeat customers, which is just a fee. Most owners find the first number defensible and the second one hard to justify.

How do you reduce what the delivery apps take?

Keep the marketplaces for discovery and give your regulars somewhere direct to order. Every order that moves from a 25% channel to your own page keeps roughly a quarter of its value in the restaurant, minus card processing.

That is the business we are in, so treat this as a disclosure rather than a recommendation: our own ordering platform is $99 CAD / $89 USD per location per month with 0% commission, and what online ordering really costs compares it against the other options with every price linked. DoorDash Storefront, above, is a real alternative and we have said so.

Keep the marketplaces. Move the regulars.

$99 CAD / $89 USD per location, 0% commission — and we build your menu for you, free.
