Square Online pricing in the US starts at $0 a month on Square Free, where each online card payment costs 3.3% + 30¢. Square Plus is $49 a month per location and Square Premium is $149, and both drop the online rate to 2.9% + 30¢. Square Online isn't a separate subscription any more. It comes with whichever Square plan you're on.

Those numbers are from Square's own pricing page and its online store plans page, read on 16 October 2026. A lot of guides still quote the old Square Online prices, so check the date on anything you read.

A disclosure first: OrderEatRepeat is our product. It is online ordering for restaurants, so it competes with Square Online, and it also works with Square. Our restaurants, Greek On Wheels in Ottawa, are under common ownership with OrderEatRepeat. Every Square number below links to Square's own page.

How much does Square Online cost?

In the US, Square Online comes with every Square plan: Square Free at $0, Square Plus at $49 a month per location, and Square Premium at $149 a month per location. Businesses processing over $250,000 a year can ask for custom pricing on Square Pro.

On Square's pricing page:

  • Square Free: $0 a month. Online card payments 3.3% + 30¢; in person 2.6% + 15¢.
  • Square Plus: $49 a month per location, with a 30-day free trial. Online 2.9% + 30¢; in person 2.5% + 15¢.
  • Square Premium: $149 a month per location, with a 30-day free trial. Online 2.9% + 30¢; in person 2.4% + 15¢.
  • Square Pro: custom pricing above $250,000 a year in card payments.

Square says you can "cancel or switch plans anytime". The US page shows monthly prices only.

Is Square Online free?

Yes. Square Free has no monthly fee, and you pay 3.3% + 30¢ on each online card payment instead. You get the website builder, pickup and local delivery, and Order with Google.

Some things need Square Plus or higher. On Square's plan comparison, these are not included in Square Free:

  • Connecting your own domain
  • QR code ordering
  • Abandoned cart emails
  • Expanded site customization

So a free Square Online site runs on a Square web address, without table QR ordering. For a lot of small takeout restaurants that's fine. For a restaurant that wants its own web address, it's $49 a month.

What changed in Square's pricing?

On 6 October 2025, Square replaced its separate subscriptions with three plans for the whole business: Free, Plus and Premium. Square's announcement says the three tiers replace "18 different à la carte subscriptions".

For Square Online, the jump was large. In a Square Community thread from 17 October 2025, a seller asks whether the old $16 and $29 a month plans still exist. A Square Champion (a seller, not a Square employee) replies that the tiers "are now $0, $49 and $149 per month."

Square says the new plans are "available now to all new US sellers". Existing sellers move over through the Square Dashboard, and Square says it will notify them before their price changes. If a guide says Square Online Plus is $29, it is out of date.

What are Square Online's card processing fees?

On Square Free, an online card payment costs 3.3% + 30¢. On Square Plus and Premium, it costs 2.9% + 30¢.

The other online fees on Square's fees page:

  • Payments through apps that connect to Square (the "Online API" rate): 2.9% + 30¢ on every plan, Free included.
  • Manually keyed cards or cards on file: 3.5% + 15¢.
  • International cards: an extra 1.5%.
  • Afterpay: 6% + 30¢.

On a $40 online order, that's $1.62 on Square Free and $1.46 on Square Plus.

When is Square Plus cheaper than Square Free?

Once you take more than about $12,250 a month in online card payments. Below that, the 0.4% you save on Plus is less than its $49 fee.

The math: 3.3% minus 2.9% is 0.4%, and 0.4% of $12,250 is $49.

Online card sales per monthSquare Free (3.3%, $0 a month)Square Plus ($49 a month + 2.9%)
$5,000$165$194
$10,000$330$339
$20,000$660$629
$40,000$1,320$1,209

Not included: the 30¢ per order, which is the same on both plans; KDS devices; hardware; and in-person sales, where Plus also saves 0.1%. If you also take a lot of payments at the counter, Plus pays for itself sooner.

How much does a Square kitchen display cost?

The Square KDS app isn't available on Square Free. It costs $30 a month per device on Square Plus and $20 a month per device on Square Premium.

That's on Square's plan comparison, under Restaurant operations. A restaurant on Plus with two kitchen screens pays $49 + $60 = $109 a month per location before card fees.

How much does Square Online cost in Canada?

In Canada, Square Online still has its own plans: Free at $0, Plus at $36 a month billed annually, and Premium at $99 a month billed annually. Online card payments cost 2.8% + $0.30 on Free and Plus, and 2.5% + $0.30 on Premium.

That's Square's Canadian online store plans page, read 16 October 2026. Plus adds a custom domain, removing Square branding, QR code ordering and a free domain for the first year. The Canadian page shows no month-to-month price for Plus or Premium. Square's October 2025 announcement covered US sellers.

Is Square Online good for restaurants?

It's a strong choice if you already run Square at the counter, because the menu, items and payments all live in one account. The free plan is cheap to start. The costs show up as you grow: a custom domain and QR ordering need Plus, and each kitchen screen is extra.

What it does well, from Square's plans page: pickup and local delivery on every plan, Order with Google, customer accounts, and a site that syncs with Square POS.

What to watch:

  • On Free, every online order costs 0.4% more than on Plus.
  • On Plus, each KDS screen adds $30 a month.
  • The plan is per location, so three locations on Plus is $147 a month before KDS.

How does Square Online compare with OrderEatRepeat?

OrderEatRepeat is $79 USD (or $89 CAD) per location a month, with the ordering site and the kitchen app included. It works with Square: card payments go through your own Square account, and accepted orders appear on your Square POS.

That's on our integrations page and pricing page. Because the payment goes through Square's API, a US restaurant pays Square's app rate of 2.9% + 30¢ on every Square plan, Free included.

The honest comparison:

  • Against Square Free: Square Free costs less until your online sales pass about $19,750 a month. Below that, $79 a month is more than the 0.4% you'd save. Square Free also has no kitchen screen.
  • Against Square Plus with one KDS screen: Both come to $79 a month plus 2.9% + 30¢ per order. The difference is what you get. Square Plus also covers your POS features, loyalty and text marketing. OrderEatRepeat includes the kitchen app, Regulars loyalty and follow-up emails, and we build your menu for you.
  • If you're not on Square: OrderEatRepeat also works with Stripe, Moneris, Clover, Braintree, Authorize.Net, TD Online Mart and Elavon, so you don't have to switch processors.
